The Hoarding Stage

I guess for those of us who are into this miniature hobby, maybe there will come a time where you will reach this stage of the hobby. What’s the stage… The Hoarding Stage.

Watching this video definitely caused quite a few flashes in my brain as to where are some of the miniatures I have gotten long ago. I guess they are all in the pile and pile of boxes in my painting shop… ha ha. But of recent years, I have stopped buying miniatures. Usually I will tell myself, when I wanna start the project then I buy, the boxes of miniatures will always be at the store. I am just storing it at the store, will get it only when I am ready. However, if its a limited edition or limited release, temptation comes again… ha ha

What Atom mentioned as to how the hoard came about, its definitely true for all collectors and gamer out there. You have a plan or a good idea for a conversion project, and this box of miniature looks perfect. Once its purchased, I guess it depends on how motivated one is, either it will be chucked on the shelf or… maybe it might be painted and deployed.

One point he did mentioned which I liked and agreed though, if one fine day, we fail our armour saves and goes down, what will happen to our boxes and boxes of hoard? This point did had me pondering a while…

Guess it’s time to do some spring cleaning and see what can clear off the shelves! If you are at this hoarding stage of the hobby too, maybe its time to do some spring cleaning as well?… Cheers!

A New Look

ogre maneater pirateWelcome to a new updated look for The Painting Shop.
Yes… its been a long overdue update, but finally I go the site updated. The design is still bearing the same style and feel as the previous one. The header design is updated with a simple and easy look, and the site is now mobile and devices friendly. Check it out… Cheers!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sedition War Cpt Kara BlackWishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Managed to pick up my brushes and got some painting done just before I went on a long family gathering and vacation. Will post them after I am back from my long trip.

For the New Year, I guess I will target and push more painting done. As usual there is always so many miniatures and so little time… Haha…

Meantime, everyone have a good holiday and New Year! Cheers!

So far so good…

dust tactics sturmpioniereBeen an exact of 30 days since I last post. Work had been busy, but things should slow down this Dec, then hopefully I can pick up my brushes again.

With the busy month and much thoughts on budget, I decided to skip Mars Attack and Wrath of Demons kickstarters altogether. For Mars Attack, I just felt it was like Deadzone with the Mars aliens. But for the Wrath of Demon, I was really tempted to pledge for it. I was just fascinated with the Chinese Mythology characters miniatures. The kickstarter did not offer the main characters in resin for pledging. The main resin characters was only available in the game set pledge itself. In the end, I made the hard choice and decided to skip the kickstarter and save my budget for whats next to come.

Before I could even hold my budget back, Black Friday sale was just too tempting. And my budget went to Flames of Wars. Had a quick 2 games of FOW a while back, and its bringing back all the excitement. Stay tuned as I talk more of FOW in the next posts. Meantime, hope as work slow down, I can pick up my brushes again… cheers!

More Kickstarter – Mars Attack and Journey Wrath of Demons

What a month, its the last day of October already. Sigh, work has been loaded this month again and I still cant really squeeze time picking up my brushes.

Well, in the midst of busy work, I am still getting tempted with more kickstarter projects to pledge.

Mars Attack! This kickstarter is by Mantic, it hit its target almost immediately during its launch couple of while back. 12 days more to go, before it ends in 10 Nov. When it first launched I was fascinated with the Mar Attack theme. It made me watch clips of Mars Attack movie and added on the inspiration. I was already set on pledging, however, my interest sort of dwindle off recently after watching the gameplay movie. I felt that its style and such is a bit pretty much like smiliar to Deadzone or so, and it doesnt inspire me that much, even though I am looking forward to Deadzone coming soon. Guess in the meantime, I will ponder over the next few days and see how the pledge goes on…

On the other hand, another kickstarter Journey: Wrath of Demons caught my attention few days back. Its a miniature boardgame by a Hong Kong company. The theme is base on the Chinese mystic tale of Journey to the West. The presentation, sculpts, artwork and design were pretty impressive. I was really capture and impressed! I must say it got me hooked on, but I am still waiting for the update for the gameplay video demo, before I decide to pledge or not. Meantime, check out Journey: Wrath of Demons

Well… these 2 kickstarters will keep me occupied and I will definitely be trailing it to come to a decision. Hole in my pocket gonna get burned again… haha… cheers!

Raging Heroes Kickstarter Updates

Recently, when I received my update email for Raging Heroes kickstarter, upon opening my mail, I was lost for words. The miniature pictures rendering so far that is updated are simply amazing. I must say, I was really lost for words. First thing that comes to my mind, can I add-on more later when selection stage comes…

raging heroes

Wow. I must say, Raging Heroes sure has done a very good job in their kickstarter planning and their design and visual presentation are simply amazing. It definitely inspires and attract the audiences.
For now, I guess it’s at the design and computer render stage, lets hope that at the production stage quality it is kept to its best as its computer renders. Meantime, check out more at Raging Heroes. For now, I just have to wait patiently… cheers!

Its about time, Stormtroopers!

40k stormtrooperThough I am not so much into GW stuff of recent already, but the recent rumour and schedule line up for one of them really got me excited again, 40k Imperial Guards Stormtroopers!

Seems like the Stormtroopers will be in a box of plastic 5-man, which can be assembled as veteran or Stormtroopers. The Stormtroopers are definitely way overdued very long. Ever since the last Imperial Guards codex released, there was no mention of the Stormtroopers. I am a fan of the Stormtroopers. When Grey Knights got the Stormtroopers left out in the last codex, I was disappointed.

Now it seems like there is some hope for the Stormtroopers! Meantime, its time to save some gold coin for the Stormtroopers coming next year, as they don’t come cheap from GW. Cheers!

I need time for my brushes

workspaceJust as kickstarter Incursion ended, with every stretched goals all hit, I was swarmed with work as anticipated. I was glade that I managed to finish my Flames of Wars earlier just before this busy month of workload hit. It has been a busy month, and at the end of each day, I wasn’t left with much energy to hold my brush.

Hopefully workload will get better this coming weeks and month then I can continue with my adventure and painting.

I was just looking the past kickstarter projects that I have pledged, it’s a total of 8 kickstarter projects and lots of money pumped into it. They are

  • Sedition War
  • Relic knighs
  • Bombshell Babes
  • Judge Dredd
  • Kingdom Death
  • Deadzone
  • Raging Heroes
  • Incursion.

Of the 8 kickstarters, so far to date, only Sedition War (wave 2 is still pending?), Bombshell Babes and Judge Dredd were delivered. Well, meantime I just have to trust and believe in the timeline and promises promised by the kickstarters starter.

Next week, workload might dipped a little, lets hope I can find time to hold my brushes again. Most probably, with my slight 40k motivation, I think I will continue to refurnish my Grey Knights and paint more. Cheers!

Kickstarter Incursion

incursionKickstarter can be addictive as well. It can be just like collecting warhammer and wanting to add-on to more. Just got burned with Raging Hero kickstarter recently, now I am attracted to this Kickstarter Incursion! Honestly, the artwork really caught my attention. When I realised that it’s a Kickstarter, it was total chaos.

After much hesitation, I probably will hitch a ride on this Kickstarter. Incursion game followed a theme of WWII with Zombies, pretty much like the Secrets of the Third Reich. The game play is pretty much like GW’s Space Hulk. Besides attracted to the artwork, I guess with the game play similar to Space Hulk concept, it does seem like an interesting strategic game to invest and play. On top of that, there’s miniatures to paint as well.

There’s 4 days left to the kickstarter, I am hoping more freebies like all Kickstarter can be unlocked. Really looking foward to the plastic doors and the add-on Drop Troopers 200k! Meantime, do check out Kickstarter Incursion!

I am still around…

I am still around. Apologies for my absence for missing any post or updates for the past one month. It has been a busy roller coaster ride for the past one month. Besides work and family taking over most of my time, I had to deal with my painting motivation adjustment as well. Well in the mid of this mood mode, there was still a commission project (check out next post) that kept me going. Afterall, it’s a client project, so there is definitely no room for any excuse but to get the project done.

When I managed to complete the commission project, I was in the frenzy mode to complete my first Flames of Wars army, before I get swamp with work again in the next coming months. And I surprised myself, I managed to complete my first Flames of Wars army (will post it later on). After my Flames of Wars army was done, guess I spend the past few days trying to figure to get a proper transport bag to transport my FOW miniatures for gaming. Still trying to decide though which transport foam and bags.

Then recently, been chatting up and messaging a lot with my another warhammer gaming group guys. They are still going strong in warhammer & 40k and really faithful fanboys. Guess they are not at all affected with what GW had progressed. Somehow in the chat, it did spurred my motivation and interest back to GW warhammer and 40k. This lead me to maybe I should pick up my Dark Eldar and try to complete it and maybe have a few games with it. Then I found out that with the recent 6th Edition, Dark Eldar seems to have a few extra disadvantages. There goes my motivation along with my wyches and Raiders. Then I thought maybe I should fall back to my Inquisition. One of the gaming group boys is doing a Sister army, and hey, I have all the Sister of Battle as well. Hmm… maybe I should dig out my sisters and try to complete it?

So many thoughts and so many miniatures, guess meantime let me figure out what next on my painting table to be painted. Cheers!
