Where the world of colours bring Miniatures to life!

For every brush stroke,

it’s a stroke of passion and soul...

I show you how to paint Dark Eldar Kabalite Warrior

I am still burying myself in the Dark Eldar Codex with its fluff and stories, and trying to decide to assemble a shredder or blaster Dark Eldar for my 9 Dark Eldar Kabalite Warriors. In the meantime, let me run through how I paint my Dark Eldar Kabalite Warrior.

All along when Games Workshop revealed the Dark Eldar Kabalite Warrior with the painted edges on the armour, it has always intrigued me a lot. I imagined that the armour were made of some kabalite material technology in the Dark Eldar world. The material had some sort of glow at the edge of it. Its like if your shine light onto the side edge of a plastic sheet or plastic rod, or like those fibre optics effects.

Anyway, finally decided that the colour theme would be Turquoise after much flickering between green and blue. The base colour of the armour would be sort of a dark copper feel like colour.

a. After assembling the Dark Eldar Kabalite Warrior, took some green stuff and rolled it into a thin string. Drill some holes with a pin vice through the heads of 2 skeleton heads from the Skeleton Warrior sprue. String the green stuff string through the head and tied the ends to the splinter rifle.

b. Base coat the miniature black. Once dried, the armour is coloured with a mix of 2 :1 portion of Citadel Tin Bitz and Chaos Black. Its sort of darker than the original Tin Bitz but not entirely black.

c. The knee guard is painted with a mix of 1:1 Citadel Tin Bitz and Dwarf Bronze. The splinter rifle is painted with Citadel Bolt Gunmetal and Tin Bitz. The skull heads are painted with Citadel Foundation Dheneb Stone.

d. Next, the Kabalite armour. For the Turquoise colour, its a mix of 1:4 Citadel Dark Angel Green and Midnight Blue. As I will be using the Turquoise a lot, I premixed the colour and stored it in a empty paint pot. I shall explain the blend and shade of the Turquoise colour method on a sample plastic piece which I use to test the colour scheme.

  1. the rectangle colour is a mix of 2:1 Tin Bitz + Chaos Black.(which is the Dark Eldar kabalite armour)
  2. colour the edge of the sample rectangle with a mix of 1:1 Citadel Skull White + Turquoise colour.
  3. while the mix of Skull White + Turquoise is still wet, colour a strip of Turquoise overlapping the mix of Skull White + Turquoise.
  4. blend the overlapping edge of the Turquoise colour and mix of Skull White + Turquoise
  5. blend the other end edge of the Turquoise colour with a mix of Citadel Tin Bitz + Chaos Black.
  6. Highlight with Skull White at the edge, blending the other edge end with a mix of Skull White + Turquoise

I use this method to get all the edges of the armour of the Dark Eldar Kabalite Warrior painted.

e. The eye portion of the Dark Eldar is painted with Citadel Dark Angel Green first. Then it is followed by a highlight of Citadel Dark Angel Green + Skull White. Finally just a small dot highlight of Skull White. The glow is dry brushed with a mix of Citadel Dark Angel Green + Skull White, followed by a thin edge highlight of Skull White at the lower portion of the eye area.

f. Next, the cloth or skin at the waist and groin area. Started off with base colour of Citadel Bleach Bone. The recess area is a mix of Citadel Bleach Bone + Scorched Brown, blended to the the base colour of Bleach Bone. The high areas are then highlighted with Skull White.

g. The knee guard is dry brushed and highlighted with Citadel Mithril Silver. After which it is given a wash of Citadel Wash Gryphonne Sepia.

The splinter rifle is dry brushed with Citadel Mithril Silver at the edges.

The Skulls are based with Citadel Foundation Dheneb Stone, followed by a wash of Devian Mud. Then it is dry brushed with Citadel Bleach Bone, followed by Citadel Skull White.

h. Last but not least, the sand base is coloured with Citadel Scorched Brown then after dry brushed with Snakebite Leather, then Skull White. The base is then painted with Citadel Foundation Khemri Brown. Finished it off with some dry static grass.

Just a typical guy who has made painting miniatures part of his daily routine life. As long as I have time in my hands, I will paint. Even with few minutes to spare at times, I will still pick up my brushes and paint a little. Nothing beats the satisfaction when you have your miniatures all done and and ready for battle!
